Dear Jarom,
Happy Birthday! Today you are 6 years old. You have grown up so much this past year. For one thing, you started first grade this week! Your teacher's name is Mrs. Schlappi and she seems to be the one everybody wants. I think you're going to like her class. You learned so much in kindergarten and you even started reading a little bit. I think you'll just keep progressing. Fortunately you seem to really like school and I hope that continues. Even if your favorite part is recess!
You had a great kindergarten year. Your best friend in that class was Nathan. Unfortunately he goes to a different school now but we still run into him at the library sometimes. We let you grow your hair out until the end of the school year and then shaved it for the summer. One of our neighbors said you looked like Apollo Anton Ohno so we had to take a picture of you looking like him!
You are growing like a weed. I continually have to buy you new clothes and new shoes because you grow out of everything so quickly. You are 46 inches tall and 48 lbs. You are all muscle - you even have a six pack! You run really fast and are very strong. You took swimming lessons this summer and loved it. You are totally fearless in the water but we need to work on your form! You also started Tae Kwon Do and your teacher is impressed with how well you are already progressing. You've told us you want to be an American Ninja Warrior when you get older.
You had an awesome time at Disneyland and can't wait to go back. We bought you a Leap Frog to play in the car and between that and coloring with Crayola Color Wonders you were so quiet for the 12 hour drive there and back. I think your favorite part of Disneyland was when you went to the Jedi Training Academy. We were so happy when they picked you to be one of the Padawan's. You were the only one wearing Mickey ears! And you got to fight Darth Vader. It was awesome. You also had a great time playing at the splash pad in A Bug's Life and you went on your first roller coaster in Toon Town. You thought it was so funny to scream the whole time. Not because you were scared but because it was fun. However, you did get scared in the Haunted Mansion and the Indiana Jones ride. I guess you were a little too young for those.
We had a great time celebrating your birthday! You took cupcakes to school to celebrate with your class. After school, daddy took you golfing with your brand new golf bag. When you got home we went to dinner. When I asked you where you wanted to eat you told me Zuppa's. You really like their Wisconsin cauliflower soup! After dinner we went to Grandma and Grandpa Funk's house for your birthday party. You had a pirate party! We got eye patches and pirate tattoos and a treasure chest pinata. I made you cupcakes with the Jolly Roger flag on them. For your birthday you got a Jedi costume for the Build-A-Bear you got at Disneyland. It even came with a light saber! You got some new clothes, golf balls and golf glove, a Hulk Bionical and a cool Matchbox ramp. We had a great time.
You are getting to be such a big helper. You help with Alex when we're out and about, you love to help with Megan and you love to play with both of your siblings. You are so smart and so funny. You are always eager to help and have such a tender heart. You are so creative and are always creating something new, whether with blocks or crayons or something else. We love you so much!
Love, Mommy
