Letter to Jarom: Month 47

Dear Jarom,

Today you turn 47 months! It's only a month away from your birthday and you can't wait! You have figured out your birthday is August 31st and you've been telling everybody. There are so many things we want to get you for your birthday but we're going to have to pick just a few because you really don't need lots and lots of presents.

We have done a lot of fun things this month. We went and saw fireworks on the 4th of July at Murray Park. Last year you were kind of scared of them but this year you were just fine. And you thought it was cool someone gave you a couple of light sticks when it was over. You and daddy made a fort in the basement and slept there that night! We watched Travis and company do fireworks at Travis and Jenni's for the 24th as usual and you thought those were cool too. I think you and Dylan had the most fun throwing snaps at each other's feet! That day we also went to a Pow Wow at Liberty Park and watched all the Native American dancers, and to Murray Park for Spencer's birthday.

We have done a lot of water activities this month too and you have loved them! We went to a splash park and you got soaked! You had a great time until you were freezing cold so we had to get your wet clothes off and wrap you in a towel. One day we met Amy and Emma Mitchell at the Gateway and you and Emma and even Alex a little bit, played in the fountain there. The other two just got a little wet but again, you got soaked! You had so much fun and you had no trouble making friends with the other kids playing in the fountain.

You've gone and played with Lindzie and Bailey in their pool a couple times and you had a great time with that and we also had a ward pool party at the Centennial pool. It has a playground in the middle of the shallow end and you and Bailey and all the other kids from Primary had a blast! I can't wait to take you swimming again! Another water activity you've been doing where you don't get quite so wet is fishing. Daddy bought you and him some fishing poles and you've gone fishing a few times. Nobody has caught anything yet but you still seem to have a good time.

We went hiking up Donut Falls last weekend and that was fun too. I thought you might have a harder time than you did but you just hiked away! You loved climbing over the rocks and stepping in the water at the base of the falls. You got just a little tired on the way back so daddy put you on his shoulders. He already had Alex on his back! You said your favorite part of that excursion wasn't the hiking or the falls, it was when we couldn't find a bathroom and you got to pee in a bush! We shouldn't have started that because now you always want to pee in bushes. Thankfully there is usually a restroom nearby!

We also went to Tracey Aviary at Liberty Park and saw all the birds. You were more interested in them than I thought you would be. You stuck your hand out to one but you didn't have any bird food so he pecked your finger! After the birds we went outside the Aviary and there are some kiddie rides in the park. You had a great time riding all those rides too!

You are getting really interested in the alphabet and learning to read. To help you learn your letters we found a phonics sight online with lots of things to do to learn the alphabet and what each letter says. You call it the "letter game" and you love to play it! You've gotten really good at moving and clicking the mouse all by yourself. Hopefully it'll help you get more prepared for preschool in the fall.

You have become like a second mom to Alex. You love to take care of him and you're always worried when he starts to go for something he shouldn't be into. You grab his feet and drag him across the floor and away from the troublesome spot. You also love that you can pick him up! He weighs 20lbs and you weigh 40lbs! You are so cute with him!

You have finally learned how to spell your name. I had to put it to the tune of Bingo: There was a mom who had a kid and Jarom was his name-o. J-A-R-O-M, J-A-R-O-M, J-A-R-O-M and that's how you spell Jarom! And that's how you remember how to spell your name:) We also bought you a storm trooper blaster gun now that you're potty trained. You love to dress up like a storm trooper and shoot your blaster dart gun!

You are so silly and we have had so much fun this month. I can't believe how big you are getting!

Love, Mommy

Letter to Alex: Month 8

Dear Alex,

Today you turn 8 months old! The time is going by so fast I can't believe it! Pretty soon you'll be a year old and that's just crazy. I swear you were just born. About a week and a half ago or so you started crawling. For awhile you were doing sort of a breast-stroke tummy scoot but now it's full fledged crawling on hands and knees. You do still add a little of the tummy scoot sometimes though. You are really good at getting around and can get from laying down or crawling to sitting now. You've also started trying to climb up on things to a standing position but mostly you tip over before you get all the way up. I can't believe how much you've changed this month.

You've also started getting your own personality instead of just being a "mini Jarom." You're not as big a fan of eating as he was. I've tried giving you some semi-solid foods but your gag reflex kicks in at any little thing. So, I think we'll be taking this feeding thing a little slower with you. Not like you're starving. I took you to the doctor the other day because you had a really high fever and you were already 19 lbs! And they couldn't figure out the cause of the fever but you're doing ok now so it was probably some little virus. It also takes you longer to warm up to people than it did Jarom. You are a lot more reserved but still very friendly.

We took you to a splash park this month. You didn't like it very much! You don't seem to like getting wet except in the bathtub. In the bath you just splash and splash and think it's great. You don't even like getting hit with sprinklers as we're out for a walk. You do enjoy taking walks in your stroller though.

You've been really fussy lately. I think it's just that you're frustrated that you can't get around and do things as well as you'd like. But you love playing with toys and you love to hold things in your hands. We've put you on Jarom's little Winnie the Pooh car at Grandma's house and you like rolling around on that (with help, of course!) And you've started getting separation anxiety a little bit. Sometimes you scream at the top of your lungs if you can't see me! Let's hope you get over that soon.

You are so fun and always have smiles for us. You've started saying "mamamama" and I can't wait for that to turn into a real word! We love you so much.

Love, Mommy
