Letter to Jarom: Month 32

Dear Jarom,

Sorry, I'm not really on the ball this month. It's been about a week since you turned 32 months but we've been pretty busy around here. For one thing, mommy hasn't been feeling that great because she's growing another baby (and this time we heard the heartbeat! Yea!). You've been really helpful though. You get really concerned when you hear me throwing up in the mornings and you come in to make sure I'm ok and flush the toilet for me. It's really cute. Some days you're excited for us to have a baby in the house but other days you say you don't want one. I think you're going to be a big help when the baby does come. You like to kiss the baby in my belly!

Your imagination has been growing so much this month. You love to pretend you're giving us haircuts. You put one of your blankies around our necks like you've seen Roger do for you. And then you snip snip with your imaginary scissors, and of course we get a sucker when you're done because you always get a sucker after your haircut! The other day we had to go to the DMV and I wasn't sure how you would behave while we waited but you were pretty good. You pretended you were a puppy and I was throwing imaginary puppy treats for you to catch in your mouth. The funniest part was you were handing me the imaginary puppy treats so I could throw them to you! You do that with baseball too. You always hand us the imaginary ball to throw so you can hit it with your imaginary bat!

You watched Star Wars for the first time last month and you are totally smitten. You especially like the Ewoks. And the light sabers. You run around fighting with your imaginary light saber. And you make us sing the Star Wars songs for you. I don't mind the imaginary fights but you have become pretty violent lately. I'm not sure what we're going to do about that short of buying you a punching bag and telling you that's the only thing you're allowed to hit. It could work...

You've started working on dressing yourself. You're pretty good at the undressing part, but you're still struggling with actually getting your clothes on. I need to let you work on that on your own instead of just jumping in to do it for you every time. The other night you came downstairs crying and I didn't know what the problem was until I saw that you were naked except for your diaper! You had tried to change into a different pair of pajamas but you'd only succeeded in getting the other pair of pajamas off and you were so frustrated! It was pretty funny.

Last month we celebrated Easter. We let you go for an Easter egg hunt in the living room and you were very excited. You did a good job of finding all the eggs but I should have taped them shut. Before we could stop you you were opening them all and eating all the jelly beans out of them! We used the jelly beans to help you work on your colors. You're doing pretty well, you know red, orange and blue really well. We'll just have to keep working on the other colors.

You would rather play outside than work on colors or numbers or letters. You have a hard time counting to five but you can do six through ten pretty well. Which is weird because we count to five at you all the time. I guess you just block us out because you don't want to do what we want you to do when we count to five! We spend time out in our new yard and you love to look at all the bugs and play with the dandelions much to daddy's chagrin.

I can't wait to see what's next.

Love, Mommy
