Letter to Alex: Months 20, 21 & 22

Dear Alex,

Today you are 22 months! You have grown so much over the summer. You seem like such a big kid instead of my little baby boy. You talk so much! Every day you are saying more and more words. It's funny to hear you use word like "sure", "oh yeah", "what is it?", and "big gulps." Sometimes I get confused because you say "mommy" for mommy and "mama" for grandma. I usually answer to either one but you get frustrated if you're talking to grandma and I answer instead.

This summer we made you sit through Jarom's swimming lessons and T-ball games. As long as I brought books, toys, and snacks you did pretty well. One time I forgot the stroller at the pool and you kept trying to jump right in! And you're so fast you almost made it once or twice. We did take you swimming several times and you had a blast. You thought it was fun to jump in from the sides and have mommy or daddy catch you.

We went to the park once a week with some of our neighbor friends for the free summer lunch. You weren't a big fan of the free lunch but you loved playing at the park. At first you were afraid of the slides and couldn't do much climbing - you just walked up and down the steps of the playground equipment. Now you're a regular monkey! You climb on everything and now you'll go down any of the slides - usually with one hand behind you to kind of slow you down. We went to a splash park once this summer too and you had a great time getting all wet!

We moved you into Jarom's room to get the nursery ready for the baby. You are a big fan of the bunk beds and don't mind sharing a room with Jarom. However, it is A LOT harder to keep you in the bed rather than the crib. Even after we moved you I was still putting you in your crib for nap time. Now one of us has to stay in the room with you until you fall asleep to ensure you stay in bed.

We went to Park City in July and you had a good time. You were too little to ride the Alpine slide but we put you on some of the kiddie rides. You were ok with the planes as long as they stayed near the ground. You freaked out when they went in the air! And I couldn't get you to sit on one of the horses on the merry-go-round either. You had fun staying in the hotel and swimming in the pool. And you actually liked the fireworks for the 4th as well.

Your little sister was born in August. You stayed with grandma and grandpa and were really good with them and love playing in their backyard. You really like your little sister and love to give her kisses, which you pronounce "misses." Sometimes I think you'll smother her with all the kisses you give but I think as you get older you'll be a great big brother to Megan.

We went to the fair a few days ago and you had a great time riding the train and giant slide and going through the little farmers section. You got to milk a cow and sheer sheep and plant food and ride a tractor. I think your favorite part of the fair, though, was the cotton candy! You couldn't get enough of that stuff.

You are such a funny little boy and we love having you in our family.

Love, Mommy
