Today you turn 34 months. You have been so funny this month, you're always making us laugh. You're starting to talk better and you say funny things like, "Huh, that's weird" and when we're mad at something you've done, "You're not mad, you're happy!" And you say everything in context too. You love to look at books. Your favorite book right now is The Napping House and you make me read it to you over and over. Before naptime, before bedtime, I've pretty much got the book memorized for all the times we've read it. I'm just glad you like books.
You like to go to the library and look at new books, but mostly you like to go there to play with all the kids. One day we were there and you started talking to this nine year old boy who turned out to be the son of a former co-worker of mine. This is how the conversation went:
Sam: Do you like Bakugan?
Jarom: Yes!
Sam: I have 14 Bakugans.
Jarom: I have two!
I was laughing so hard because you had no idea who or what Bakugan was but you were carrying on this conversation like you totally knew what you were talking about. It was hilarious!
This month you went on your first camping trip! Our stake had their Fathers and Sons campout and you went with Daddy, Uncle Jonnie and Bailey. From what I hear you had a wonderful time and when you got home you told me you want to go camping again! You roasted marshmallows and went in a canoe and played with all the kids and slept in a tent. I guess we'll have to take you camping more often.
I think you're starting to understand the concept of the baby. You understand that it's in mommy's belly. The other day we were looking at the blog and you saw the baby counter at the top and you said the baby came out of my belly and it was showing up in the icon on the computer. It was funny! You're starting to figure out where your food goes too. You tell me it goes in your mouth and goes down down down until it comes out your diaper! As for potty training, we're starting to work on that but you haven't quite figure out you're supposed to go on the potty before you go in your diaper. We'll keep working on it.
Your birthday is still two months away but you're becoming obsessed with it. When someone asks you how old you are you tell them you'll be three on your birthday. Even though you can't tell them when that will be! For quite awhile you told me you wanted a Star Wars cake - either Yoda, or light sabers, or Darth Vader. Lately you change your mind quite a bit. Sometimes you want Spiderman or Sandman or Batman or Fireman Sam or Transformers. One day you even told me you wanted a 20th Century Fox cake but I don't know how we'd pull that off. Hopefully as your birthday gets closer we'll be able to pinpoint one specific cake and go with that!
I can't believe you're almost three but when I look at you you're definitely not the baby and you're not really a toddler anymore. You look like a kid now and it's so fun to watch you grow up.
Love, Mommy

Here's a funny story from Auntie La. We were sitting in the back seat on the way to lunch and I was talking with Jarom. I said something to him and called him "Baby" like I always do. He turned to me and said, "I'm not a baby, I'm Jarom Watts!" Such a funny kid!
It's funny how much they change in such a short amount of time. It's sad too, even though it's fun to watch them grow up! :)
