Today you turned 5 months. You are getting so big you don’t seem like a baby anymore. Well, I guess you still seem like a baby, but you definitely don’t look like a newborn. You are developing a very strong personality and a very good sense of humor. You laugh at everything now. You laugh when I give you your favorite toy, you laugh when we spin you around, you laugh when we look at you funny, and most of the time you laugh for no apparent reason. But it’s such a joy to hear you laughing and gurgling and trying to form real words and sentences. Those will come quicker than we’re prepared for, I’m sure.
This month we moved into your second home. It’s bigger than our old apartment and now you get your own room. We set up your crib and put in all the cute blue and green frog bedding. You seem to like it just fine – although maybe you don’t even notice a difference. We all like that you have your own room now though. You’re getting better at falling asleep on your own, usually to a musical mobile, although there have been a few nights where you just wouldn’t go to sleep. One night you just kept crying and I finally pulled you out of your crib and you just smiled up at me like you were playing a game or something. But believe me, we were not amused!
We saw the doctor at the beginning of January and you were over 14 lbs and 23.5 inches long. You are just growing and growing. We started you on solids this month. First you tried oatmeal. You just ate it right up although you had some difficulty as you were trying to suck on the spoon like it was your bottle. It’s taken some getting used to but you’re getting really good at eating off of a spoon. You’ve also eaten carrots and sweet potatoes. You made quite the funny face the first time you tried carrots but you’ve been eating everything up just fine and get impatient if I don’t feed you fast enough. Next up: Peas. You’re trying to sit up by yourself now. When you try to pull yourself up it looks like you’re doing sit-ups. I think you’ll have better abs than your dad or I. You can sit up on our laps without something against your back but you’re still working on sitting on the floor by yourself. You can do it for about 5 seconds sometimes and that’s pretty impressive. You’re also rolling over more and more. It seems like any time I put you on your tummy you just roll right over. Sometimes if I can get you to stay on your tummy you start to scoot just a little bit. I’m sure you’ll be crawling in no time.
You don’t seem to suffer from stranger anxiety and flirt with whoever happens to be around and paying attention to you. You are at such a fun age right now and it seems like every month gets better and better. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next.
Love, Mommy
